Somatic Therapy

A typical session involves physical movement, intention and goal setting, followed by holding different physical postures to explore sensations in your body and how they relate to your emotions, your memories, and your sense of self.  This therapy is incredibly useful as a complement to “talk therapy” and is proven to increase the effectiveness of traditional therapy. If this interests you, please feel free to reach out by email or phone to ask any additional questions you may have.

EMDR

EMDR is a therapeutic technique to be used when struggling with negative and limiting core beliefs that are created within the brain as a result of a traumatic incident, complex trauma, depression, or anxiety.  EMDR is short for Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing and it was discovered in 1989 and has since become a highly acclaimed, evidence-based practice.

The process stems from research related to the natural rapid eye movement (REM) that occurs during sleep.  It is during this time that our brains “file” memories from our day and not only determine which ones to keep or throw out but also which “file cabinet” to store them in.  EMDR simulates REM in the brain.  Memories that were “misfiled” along the way, creating unhealthy or maladaptive self-beliefs are explored and “refiled” to allow existing healthy and adaptive self-beliefs to flourish.

It is so rewarding to offer EMDR to my clients who struggle with untrue and unhelpful beliefs!  Seeing the release of old habits and patterns that don’t serve them and keep them stuck are instead able to remember their true nature is an absolute joy as a therapist!

Trauma-Focused Yoga Classes

Trauma-focused yoga classes are truly distinct from traditional yoga classes.  Classes are formatted, sequenced, and languaged to provide psychological and physical safety for all participants.  The techniques used in these unique classes are intended to increase the window of tolerance while building safe and effective coping skills to navigate the nervous system.  The impact of trauma can lead to PTSD as well as depression, anxiety, and mood swings. These classes are suitable for anyone interested in self-awareness, self-compassion, grounding techniques, empowerment to make meaningful life changes, and increased connection to yourself and others. No previous yoga experience is necessary.
